Diet Plan Based on Your Genetics

24/10/2021

A diet plan based on your genetics could be the truest way to work in harmony with your body and eat your way to the best health of your life.

Rachel Clarkson is a board certified Registered Dietitian who has been researching and working in the field of Nutrition and Genetics (Nutrigenomics) for a decade.

What started as a quest for her own wellness became a professional mission. Rachel’s aim is to enlighten as many people as she can with the right nutrition, tailored specifically to their DNA, so that they can live their best life.

DNA diets can be used to boost health, lose or gain weight, and to address physical conditions and pinpoint food intolerances. If you’d like to find out more about diet plans based on your genetics by Rachel, click below.

What is a DNA diet?

DNA diets, or diet plans based on your genetics, are becoming more well known, with major media outlets like BBC Food asking, ‘Could a DNA diet test transform your life?’.

The principle is simple: most diet plans are designed for large groups, and where they are personalised that tends to be around lifestyle, goals and known health issues.

A diet plan based on your genetics goes much further by combining DNA testing with nutritional know-how to give you a plan that is tailored specifically to you. It uncovers food intolerances and metabolic tendencies that remain hidden if you go down a standard diet plan route.

An experienced, expert dietitian like Rachel Clarkson, who has been trained in Nutrigenomics, has the expertise to interpret DNA tests and combine the scientific insights with her extensive dietary training. She will produce a plan that’s uniquely tailored to you.

What’s more, it will help you meet your goals and can lead to optimal health, inside and out.

Do genes matter with diet?

DNA diets can be particularly useful for people who have found themselves ‘stuck’ in their weight loss efforts. A study in the British Medical Journal showed that people tended to follow and sustain diets based on their genetics better than other diet plans.

DNA sampling allows a dietitian to tell how your genes impact areas like body composition, nutrient metabolism, food intolerances (for example lactose and gluten), risk of deficiencies, and even future injury and health risks.

Do I need a dietitian?

Home testing kits are on the market that let you learn more about your genetics, and offer diet and nutrition advice based on your genes. But there are calls for greater regulation of these kits, which vary in quality and offer generalised advice based on indications in your DNA report.

They do not benefit from the professional interpretation of a dietitian who is familiar with your current state of health, goals and lifestyle.

Registered dietitians like Rachel Clarkson are the only qualified health professionals who can assess, diagnose and treat dietary and medical conditions, working with both healthy and sick people. ‘Nutritionist’ is not a protected term like dietitian is.

In addition to being a registered dietitian, Rachel is trained in Nutrigenomics so she can interpret the scientific data in your DNA report and use it to devise a diet plan around your goals.

These may include improving overall health, managing physical issues, helping you lose or gain weight, boosting fertility or optimising your health during pregnancy.

Rachel’s central London clinic is located on the world-famous Harley Street, less than 10 minutes’ walk from Oxford Circus tube station (via Regent Street) and less than 15 minutes’ walk from Great Portland Street tube and Regent’s Park tube stations.
